  • Water considerations in reference to being licensed.

We are close to leasing a spot for our 3bbl nano brewery... I am kinda in the dark when it comes to water considerations for being licensed. Would I be required to have the water tested but the local, or state? Any info on this would is greatly appreciated! Thanks

If it's a well, yes; if you're on city water, no. If you're talking about mineral content for brewing, then you can test when you first start using it and then at intervals you think might be necessary. I have a well and have found it to be consistent throughout the seasons, so I don't do a mineral analysis more than once a year these days. I do have to have it tested every quarter for bacteriological contamination and the results have to be filed with the local Environmental Health department. We are basically our own water company and have to follow those testing guidelines.

    Cheers,

Don - are you getting those bacterial tests done free of charge locally?

No, it costs me $80 per test, so $320/yr.
