  • Glycol Loop Pressure Test Procedure

Does anyone have a procedure to pressure test a glycol loop before we insulate the pipes and start it up? Can we use the glycol unit during the initial water, debris flush, or should I isolate the loop from the unit, hook up a garden hose to the supply with a pressure gauge on the return, bleed off air through vent until full, and let it sit for an hour to see if pressure is maintained or if leaks develop?

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Standard SOP for this....

You should follow your latter plan. Hydrostatic tests are generally performed at 1.5 x the pressure of your PRV. With no PRV, then 1.5 x the maximum pressure of your glycol pump. Placement of gauge is irrelevant. Bleeding of air is essential. You should have an air vent at highest point of your glycol loop anyways. Good luck!
