    JOB TITLE: Technical Packaging Manager
    LOCATION: Comstock Brewery
    REPORTS TO: Packaging Manager
    FLSA POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Salaried Employee
    EXTERNAL POSTING DATES: 05/02/2017- 05/21/2017

    POSITION SUMMARY: As a key member of the Packaging leadership team, the Technical Packaging Manager will lead all aspects of the day-to-day operation of Bell’s Brewery’s Technical Packaging group and Packaging Quality Program. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe work environment, interviewing and hiring new Technical Packager, working closely with HR, facilitating communication, upholding Bell’s quality standards, optimizing current processes and helping prepare for future growth.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following.
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery, Inc., and is accountable for the safety of their crew. Will lead by example in order to be a Safety role model for the Department.
    •Leads all day-to-day activities of the Technical Packaging group to support the packaging of Bell’s high quality beer.
    •Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork within the department and the company.
    •Advocates a continuous improvement culture throughout his/her team.
    •Actively engages Technical Packaging staff members towards developing their professional goals.
    •Conducts annual performance reviews with all direct reports.
    •Coordinates with HR for interviewing and hiring of all new Technical Packagers.
    •Coordinates with HR to effect disciplinary measures when necessary.
    •Manages the priorities of the Technical Packaging Staff across three shifts.
    •Partners with Packaging, Maintenance, and Quality departments to ensure Technical Packaging information is communicated across all shifts.
    •Manages and monitors Packaging Quality Data and Line Performance.
    •Tracks and analyzes data to advise Packaging Leadership on trends and predictive indicators.
    •Manages Packaging Quality Assurance and Reaction Plans to ensure Bell’s Quality Standards are upheld.
    •Coordinates with Quality Department to utilize the laboratory information management system (LIMS) and data to asses’ equipment performance, any potential quality impacts and the development of process improvements.
    •Manages Packaging Department Supply Quality Tracking, Supply Change Management Process, HACCP Program, Master Sanitation Schedules, Packaging LIMS and Record Keeping.
    •Manages and updates the development and implementation of OJT process.
    •Ensures operators are being trained according to SOPs and certified with OJT’s and manages and track annual recertification.
    •Ensures that the packaging staff follows sanitary procedures and policies set by Bell’s GMP and HACCP programs.
    •Works with the Packaging Manager and the Packaging Maintenance Lead to see that all Preventative Maintenance functions and documentation of said tasks are completed in a timely manner.
    •Oversees the development and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as necessary.
    •Trains and coaches Technical Packagers to cover in the absence of line leaders.

    Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

    •Automated packaging equipment

    •Cleaning agents and other hazardous chemicals

    oIncluding a basic understanding of Word, Excel and Outlook, LIMS
    •Hand Held Bar Code Scanner
    •Touchscreen machine controls
    •Compressed air or other gasses, including C02

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Exceptional leadership skills.
    •Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable addressing diverse groups
    •Strong computer skills necessary to quickly learn Bells’ software systems.
    •An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards who will positively represent Bell’s Brewery both internally and externally.
    •A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
    •Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple processes at one time.
    •Ability to coordinate with other departments according to schedule.
    •Ability and aptitude to work with and troubleshoot equipment
    •Ability to handle potentially hazardous chemicals & train others in safe practices

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    •Bachelor’s Degree or other certification related to Food Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, LEAN manufacturing or related field.
    •Craft brewery, LEAN Manufacturing and/or Food Safety experience
    •Previous leadership or management experience, is a plus.
    •A demonstrable interest in Craft Beer that includes a working knowledge of the brewing process.
    •Working knowledge of the cellar process.
    •Understanding the role of sanitation in beer making.
    •Experience in a production brewing or packaging environment with an understanding of lock-out/tag-out and other core safety issues.

    •Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
    •Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    •The work environment is that of a brewing and packaging facility
    •The employee frequently must work in a sterile environment.
    •The noise level in the packaging facilities is frequently loud (80+ dB)
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, steam and flame
    •The employee regularly works with pressurized vessels
    •The employee comes in contact with and has to handle broken glass.
    •The employee handles hazardous materials.
    •The employee works near moving mechanical parts.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
    •The employee works in a shared office environment
