Born in the early days of Vermont's craft brewing history, Magic Hat has been making beer in Burlington since 1994. We've made a name for ourselves through odd notions, elaborate elixirs and a solid commitment to our employees and to the great state of Vermont.
To support our whims and obligations, we're investing and growing our brewery! In the coming months, we'll be adding tank space and installing new equipment We also started serving pints and food out of the Artifactory and using our new 5-barrel pilot system to create even more of the innovative, delicious beers you have come to expect from us.
Our brewers rotate shifts between 1 st (7am - 3pm); 2 nd (3pm - 11pm) and 3 rd (11pm - 7am), 5 days a week. Fundamentals of the job include executing our weekly brewing schedule and performing certain quality control tests on the product at various stages of brewing. He/she will: operate our brewhouse, including milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, hop additions, whirlpool, and wort cooling and perform beer transfers and filtration. In addition, this position is responsible for pre & post cleaning and sanitation of all transfer lines and vessels.
Making exceptional beer can be extremely rewarding but not necessarily glamorous! This position is very physical in nature and therefore requires frequently lifting up to 55 lbs, comfort working at heights while standing on ladders, working in tight/cramped spaces and/or in awkward positions for extended periods of time. The work environment includes working on and around potentially dangerous equipment/machinery, handling hazardous materials and exposure to high noise levels.
Our ideal candidate will have at least three years of hands on brewing experience in a production brewery and/or brewing education from a certified program. He or she should have excellent organizational, communication and safe chemical handling skills. Candidates should have proven mechanical aptitude and be confident troubleshooters who know when to elevate problems to get additional assistance. Attention to details - both documentation and process - are critical skills sets.
