    Background:

    The ARTS & SCIENCE BREWERY is a collaborative brewery founded by COLLECTIVE ARTS BREWING and NICKEL BROOK BREWING. Arts & Science is one of the largest and most progressive craft breweries in Canada.
    Collective Arts Brewing and Nickel Brook Brewing are two independently owned craft breweries which have joined forces to build a new and innovative cooperative brewing facility located in Hamilton, Ontario.

    Position Summary:

    In conjunction with the Brewmaster, assist in; Planning, organization, direction, control and evaluation of the operations of the Brewing Department. Ensure completion of beer production and adherence to the standards set forth by Arts & Science, and the parent operating companies; Nickel Brook and Collective Arts.

    Aid in maintaining departmental quality standards, procedures and specifications. Ensure that the quality of the product is maintained through regular process testing and review via the standards and procedures set forth. Communicate these quality standards and practices, and their results, with members of the department and management.

    Support and implement company objectives while constantly working towards improving processes and procedures. Follow all policies and procedures and all company and departmental guidelines that may be in effect from time-to-time.

    In conjunction with other management, coordinate the creation and execution of the production schedule for both brewhouse and transferring finished beer for packaging.


    Duties and responsibilities
    • Coordinate and monitor daily Brewing Dept. production
    • Assist and/or lead in creating the brewing and packaging schedule, and ensure these tasks are met in a timely manner possible
    • Managing inventory/storage of all raw ingredients and Brewing Dept. related work items
    • Ordering/scheduling of raw and waste materials
    • Data input and KPI tracking
    • Driving continuous improvement with a focus on cost effectiveness and productivity increases
    • Staff Scheduling
    • Monitor, implement, communicate and maintain company quality standards and procedures
    • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety standards
    • Effectively lead, supervise, motivate and manage Brewing Dept. employees
    • Keep abreast of new methods, materials and equipment that might pertain to the Brewing Dept.
    • Ensure proper orientation and training of departmental employees
    • Promote and increase inter-departmental communication
    • Promote and be a role model for positive feedback and constructive forms of identifying opportunities for improvement
    • Provide leadership, direction and mentoring to direct reports to meet the goals of the organization
    • Develop, maintain and nurture a positive work environment
    • Ensure Brewing Dept. cleanliness is maintained to company standards
    • Performs other related duties as required
    • Cover for shift employees during vacation/sick leave, when necessary


    Qualifications, Experience and Skills/Knowledge

    Education:

    • High school or equivalent
    • College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Brewing specific post-high school is an asset

    Experience:

    • More than 3-5 years of professional brewing or brewing department (Cellars, filtration, QC, etc.) experience
    • Experience in a brewing supervisory related role is an asset
    • Experience with brewing related computer software implementation/usage is an asset
    • Beer quality/consistency management and recipe development is an asset

    Skills/Knowledge:

    • Ability to effectively lead and motivate people
    • Knowledge of all materials and equipment used in the brewing department
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and problem solve effectively and efficiently
    • Computer skills
    • Verbal/written/reporting skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively

    Working conditions
    • Dealing with simultaneous multiple demands which must be attended to “on the spot”.
    • Work requiring attention to detail, subject to frequent, regular interruptions that require immediate attention.
    • Peak periods requiring an accelerated work pace over which you have no control, or deadlines creating daily pressure.

    Wage

    • Salary – Negotiable, based upon experience
