Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project is a modern artisan brewery with a quality driven focus. We strive to progressively blend science and art through creativity and following our passion. Position Overview
The Cellar Tech has an essential role in the fermentation and foeders cellars and acts as a supporting function to all aspects of production. This position focuses on the monitoring and transfers of beers in various stages of fermentation, maturation and conditioning following all SOP’s to maintain the quality of the product as well as the condition of all equipment used during transfer the process.
Essential Functions
Assist with monitoring of beer fermentation, maturation and conditioning
CIP/SIP/purge stainless and wood vessels
Transfer beer from and to tanks, foeders and barrels
Operate filtration equipment
Inspect and maintain tanks, foeders and barrels
Dry hop, add fruit and/or add other adjuncts to vessels
Force carbonate and bottle/ keg condition
Bottle and keg
General and deep cleaning of all areas in the brewery
Exhibit good cellar work and cleaning practices
Proper use of cleaning chemicals and personal protection equipment (PPE)
Operate a forklift and pallet jack
Important Skills and Abilities
A strong work ethic and sense of urgency; the ability to multitask, prioritize competing tasks, and work independently, while excelling in a collaborative team environment
Must be punctual, self-motivated, and employ effective time management skills
Ability to problem-solve and work through challenges while remaining calm, flexible and upbeat, knowing when to ask for help to prevent mistakes and complete the task
Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and nonverbal communications in primary language used here
Ability to continuously stand, walk, lift, carry and handle 10 lbs.; frequently bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, and push; and occasionally lift and carry 50lbs. to 70 lbs. and work in confined spaces and close quarters with others
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, labor intensive, damp and variable temperature brewery and warehouse environment and to work with hot, cold and hazardous equipment and materials
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Fermentation Science or related field of study preferred
Two plus years experience in wort production is highly preferred
Previous experience with mechanical systems and troubleshooting problems
Must be 21 years of age
