    THE BIG PICTURE
    This position reports directly to the Production Manager and has direct responsibility in leading the maintenance/utilities operations. The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for all facilities maintenance staff, and assist the production team and front of house operations with everything maintenance, and will be responsible for keeping the brewery in good working order. Candidates must share Modern Times’ commitments to quality, safety, business ethics, and continuous innovation.


    THE EVERYDAY VIEW
    - Coach, support, and maintain communication with all facilities staff
    - Have clear knowledge of all systems utilized by Modern Times production
    - Work directly with the operations and production teams to plan facility improvement projects at all production facilities
    - Assist Management to oversee 24/7 operation of utility systems to ensure uninterrupted supply to brewery needs. Including but not limited to; maintenance of utility systems and equipment, supplies and ordering of consumable items, ensuring adequate operator manning of utility center
    - Provide technical feedback, analysis, and assist management with daily duties and reporting responsibilities in support of the maintenance department and operations
    - Establish and promote a team oriented and “Safety First” environment. Safely, efficiently and effectively work to attain department and brewery goals and objectives
    - Responsible for consistent, accurate and timely, monitoring, troubleshooting, repair/response, maintenance of utility/production control systems in accordance with established standards and specification
    - Check in daily on all major mechanical systems
    - Develop and managing a full maintenance program for Modern Times Beer
    - Maintain and organize stocks of all spare parts and supplies for equipment and projects on-site
    - Schedule and perform regular and preventative maintenance on:
    • Brewhouse: Steam system, Centrifugal pumps, Spent Grain System, Mill, Augers, HeatEX, Gearboxes etc.
    • Glycol System Chillers, pumps, evaporators, plumbing, solenoids, PID Controllers etc.
    • Steam System: Boiler, heat exchangers, steam traps, etc.
    • Packaging Equipment: Canning, Bottling, and Kegging lines
    • All Other Brewery and tasting rooms systems and utilities
    - Work with Production teams to schedule equipment downtime for routine maintenance
    - Source replacement parts
    - Specify and source equipment upgrades
    - General plumbing, electrical, paint, and related building upkeep
    - General cleaning of horizontal, vertical and sub*grate surfaces
    - Adhere to and enforce all applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations
    - Other tasks as required


    DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
    - Engineering degree from accredited 4-year university or equivalent work experience required
    - Minimum 3 years of experience working in a fast paced production facility
    - Minimum 2 years sanitary welding experience required
    - Minimum 2 years troubleshooting and repairing automated (PLC) systems experience required
    - Prefer previous people management experience
    - Experience with Siemens/Allen Bradley Automation (PLC programming a plus)
    - General mechanical aptitude required
    - Strong work ethic and self-starting attitude
    - Good interpersonal skills and team spirit
    - Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack
    - The desire to work in a fast paced, growing company
    - Willingness to regularly work during evenings and weekends


    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
    - Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application
    - Able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check
    - Able to stand for prolonged periods
    - Able to stoop, crawl, twist, turn, lift, kneel, climb ladders and stairs
    - Able to manipulate valves and clamps
    - Able to read and follow written English instructions
    - Able to regularly lift/carry 44 pound boxes
    - Able to regularly lift/carry 55 pound bags above waist level
    - Able to periodically lift/move 165 pounds
    - Able to work in a factory/production environment which may be loud, slick, humid, and hot
    - Able to comply with safe chemical handling procedures, including personal protection equipment such as gloves and goggles

    ABOUT MODERN TIMES
    Modern Times is a 30bbl production brewery in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. Modern Times is named after a beautifully crazy utopian community founded in 1850, and (almost) all of our beers are named after real utopian experiments or mythological utopias. Today, we're distributed throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, Maui, and select international markets. We operate a tasting room at the brewery, as well as in San Diego’s North Park community. We plan to open new locations in downtown LA & Anaheim in 2017, both featuring brewing facilities, restaurants, specialty coffee shops, and much more radness than we can possibly list here. We brewed our first batch on May 18th, 2013; our beer went on tap for the first time on June 24th 2013; we held the soft opening for the Lomaland Fermentorium tasting room on August 9th, 2013; and our Grand Opening was September 7th, 2013.
