What We Are Looking For:
We’re a rapidly growing brewery in need of a Quality Control/Quality Assurance Manager for our production facility in San Leandro, CA. The QA/QC Manager will have the unique opportunity to help expand the 21st Amendment’s QA/QC Department. Our QA/QC Manager will be integral in further developing our lab procedures, standards and equipment. The position requires excellent personal interaction skills, expert level of chemistry understanding and experience, a can do attitude, and the willingness to break down obstacles and create solutions to meet quality goals.
The QA/QC Manager will work out of our San Leandro facility and will need to be flexible working in a fast paced environment; and be comfortable solving problems. They must possess the ability to switch gears quickly, and prioritize many high priority tasks at once.

- Develop & Manage long term QA/QC goals
- Fermentation Management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Expected For This Position:
- Lead the daily activities of the QA/QC department
- Develop and improve existing quality standards and targets
- Develop, review, and revise SOPs within the QA department
- Provide leadership, planning and technical direction to department employees
- Ensure effective communication throughout department and interdepartmentally, ensuring adequate and timely information flow
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of environment and equipment in accordance with company standards
- Ensure safe working environment within the laboratory and brewery
- Participate in the 21A Safety Committee
- Support the Maintenance Department to ensure all equipment is operating safely and efficiently to meet our quality standards
- Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies
- Perform annual performance reviews for department employees
- Lead acquisition of new members of the QA team
- Provide long-term department growth plans including capital expenditure budget, operating expenses budget and staffing requirements
- Ability and understanding of fermentation profiles and the key chemical reactions associated with them.
- A basic knowledge of GC operation and awareness of diacetyl and its precursors and acetaldehyde production in fermentation
- Experience and understanding of departmental management, scheduling, ordering and inventory management, record keeping, and data collection and analysis
- An excitement for process and efficiency improvements
- Troubleshooting skills and proactive root cause analysis experience and mentality
- Computer literacy: Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Ability to express oneself in both written and verbal communication
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related science field such as fermentation science, food science, microbiology, chemistry. An advanced degree is considered a plus.
- At least 2 years experience at a brewery producing >10,000 bbls/yr (or similarly related beverage production)
- The successful candidate will require a valid California Driver’s License and an excellent driving record.
