OK folks, I don't know if this is some crazy coincidence, or a Baader-Meinhof situation of some kind, but I'm seeing 13.3% Alpha Acids for so many of my hops it has me confounded to the point I have to mention it here. My hop vault has a variety of hops from different suppliers from 2014-16 crop yields, and so far as I can tell/remember, they have nothing in common, other than that they are hops and they are in my cooler. I opened my newest arrivals today, and my new Citra is the same 13.3% I've been seeing over and over again.
Here's the list:
Amarillo - 13.3%AA (high for this variety!)
Chinook - 13.3%AA
Citra - 13.3%AA
Experimental Hop #06297 - 13.3%AA
Galena - 13.3%AA
Magnum - 13.3%AA
This is driving me crazy. 13.3 isn't some dummy number they give high alpha hops, right? I know I've seen higher (the last time I had Columbus in house it was nearly 16%, for example).
Weird.
