1859 Cider Company is seeking an experienced, fun, and enthusiastic individual to join our team full time as a Cellar Master. Our ideal candidate will have a passion about cider, come to work with a positive attitude, have exceptional attention to detail, possess a commitment to producing amazing cider in a meticulously clean environment, and be a team player willing to assist in all aspects of the cidery.

• Experience working with fruit either at a cidery or winery.
• Work with the highest level of integrity to maintain a clean environment for quality cider and wine production.
• Ability to work under pressure and in full view of customers in our transparent production and taproom facility.
• Detail-oriented.
• Great recordkeeping skills.
• Self-motivated and can work independently, as well as part of a team.
• Possess mechanical and/or construction skills.
• Multi-task and switch gears, as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Possess a good work ethic with integrity; have a commitment to excellence and a positive attitude.
• Perform all aspects of cellar work, including but not limited to fruit processing, cap management, barrel work and maintenance, wine/cider and juice movements, blending, lab testing, assisting with additions, and kegging/bottling.
• Operate and maintain a variety of equipment including: pumps, plate and frame filter, sterile membrane filter, harvest equipment, presses, etc.
• Adhere to the highest level of cleanliness for tank and equipment sanitation, maintenance and care of hoses and racking tools, fittings, etc.
• Handle cleaning chemicals and high temperature water safely and responsibly.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instruction, communicate clearly, and possess basic mathematical skills.
• Operate a forklift and become forklift certified.
• Assist tasting room staff for inventory needs, prepare shipping and distribution of product for outside sales, load and unload trucks.
• Use tracking software for Bill of Lading and inventory management.
• Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of the cidery, its products, and cidermaking techniques.
• Keep excellent records for tracking, permitting compliance, and inventory.
• Be able to effectively describe ciders, conduct sensory analyses and answer customer questions.
• Represent the company and brand, professionally, graciously, and enthusiastically.
• Assist with special events and harvesting fruit in the orchard as needed.
• Maintain satisfactory attendance, including timeliness.
• Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory consideration.
• Perform other duties as deemed necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in fermentation science or related degree, plus 1 year cellar experience or vintage equivalent.
• Required to be 21 years of age or older.
• Be able to obtain OLCC servers license.
• Must be reliable, punctual, flexible, and able to work weekends and holidays.
• Required to lift and move up to 75 pounds.
• Required to engage in frequent walking, standing, kneeling, and sitting for prolonged periods.
• Must be able to use tools and controls; climb stairs and ladders.
• Must be able to work around pressurized vessels.
• Work in inclement weather and be able to work long hours throughout the year for harvest and special events.
• Must have reliable transportation and ability to operate a company vehicle.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution in fermentation science or related degree, plus 1 year cellar experience or vintage equivalent, and some supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of basic computer operation.
• Knowledge of cider and wine; as well as cider and wine production.
• Mechanical, welding, and/or construction experience.
• Ability to operate a manual transmission and pull a trailer.
• Knowledge of federal and state legal compliance related to alcohol production reporting requirements.
