    The Old Bakery Beer Company is seeking candidates to hire for the position of Head Brewer/Brewmaster. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to run the show and make their mark in the St. Louis-area craft beer scene.

    A bit about Old Bakery Beer & the brewery:

    • We opened our doors in 2015 in Alton, Illinois (30 minutes north of downtown St. Louis, MO).
    • We are one of only a handful of breweries in the US that is USDA-Certified Organic. All of the beers we produce are organic.
    • We operate on a (somewhat) no-frills two-vessel 15 bbl brewhouse, with two 15 bbl fermenters, two 30 bbl fermenters, and two 30 bbl brite tanks.
    • We are a small brewery in a large space. We currently produce ~1,500 bbls/year, but have room to get to ~10,000 bbls/year.
    • We currently offer 2 year round and 8 seasonal canned beers, utilizing a mobile canning company.

    The ideal candidate will:

    • Have 3+ years brewing experience, with at least 1 year in management and/or autonomous brewer role.
    • Be formally educated on brewing science from a recognized brewing school (Siebel, American Brewers Guild, etc).
    • Be a motivated self-starter with attention to detail and organization.
    • Be passionate about craft beer.
    • Be knowledgeable (or interested to learn) about USDA-certified organic practices and procedures.
    • Be able to lift 165 lbs to waist height, and 50 lbs to chest height.
    • Be able to work in both hot/humid and cold/dry conditions.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Typical brewing stuff (recipe formulation, wort production, tank cleaning, facility sanitation, yeast management, fermentation monitoring, tank transfers, packaging, keg cleaning, etc).
    • Brewing established, house brands to spec.
    • Manage production schedule.
    • Develop new brands with aid of sales & marketing departments.
    • Delegate responsibilities appropriately to assistant brewer and any interns involved in the brewery.
