  • Head Brewer Needed for Start-Up Brewery in Virginia

Seven Sisters Brewery is a start-up brewery located in the mountains of Southwest Virginia with an anticipated opening in early-2018. Seven Sisters is committed to crafting the finest brews, providing an engaging consumer experience, and delivering it all with a little Appalachian charm. We are a very small group of beer and music lovers who work hard and believe in a tight family-oriented environment. We are seeking a qualified associate for the Head Brewer position. The Head Brewer will work alongside the General Manager in the day-to-day operations and productions aspects of the brewery.

Full Disclosure: Seven Sisters is stationed in small town Appalachia. The area has an abundance of outdoor activities and is ideal for those who prefer a slower pace of life. There aren’t any malls or work commutes sitting in traffic, just hundreds of miles of some of the highest peaks on the east coast and people that will make newcomers feel like family. The right candidate will find the area welcoming and grow an appreciation for the Appalachian culture.

The requirements and responsibilities for the candidate are listed below.

    Requirements for position:

    • Must be at least 21 years of age.
    • Knowledge of the brewing fundamentals and processes.
    • 3 to 5 years of work experience with another craft or commercial brewery.
    • Attention to detail, strong work ethic and problem solving skills.
    • Ability to handle individual responsibilities and capable of working as part of a very tight-knit team.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Ability to safely and effectively operate a steam-fired or electric brewhouse.
    • Operations include: grain handling, wort production, spent grain handling, wort cooling, and cleaning.
    • Cellar operations such as yeast collection, beer transfers, dry hopping, carbonation, tank cleaning and sanitation.
    • Participate in research and development exercises including: procuring sampling, and processing raw materials in addition to working with local farmers in
    ingredient knowledge.
    • Provide estimates and recommendations for forecasting needs of raw ingredients contracts.
    • Quality control that includes: assisting in spent grain management, viability testing, and sampling finished product for integrity and quality.
    • Good cleaning and sanitizing knowledge and following proper cleaning procedures.
    • Have a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, and other software suites used in brewery operations.
    • Participate in events at the brewery such as product launches, festivals, and other various events that may be held.

Please contact if there are any further inquiries. Send resumes to sevensistersbrewery@gmail.com.
