A recently-opened craft brewery in Vancouver, BC are seeking a Head Brewer to lead the growth of the business. The brewery team are committed to brewing great beer, providing great service, and creating a great atmosphere in the onsite tasting room. The brewery features a 20 hL brewhouse and a number of double-brew fermenters and bright beer tanks.
The role will be responsible for the scheduling and execution of all aspects of the brewery operations as well as hiring and training production staff as production volumes grow. This role will also be required to continually train the sales and tasting room staff to ensure they are conversant with the different qualities of the products and beer in general. Additionally, this role involves recipe development for seasonal and specialty release beers and regular interaction with the consumers as the Head Brewer is the public face of the brewery operations.
As the brewery production expands, this role will be responsible for managing all production related activities, including but not limited to scheduling production operations, ensuring safety and quality standards are maintained, mentoring production staff, inventory management, and operational cost control.
The ideal candidate will be:
• Committed to the brewery brand, and business strategy
• Outgoing, approachable, and personable with the brewery team and the general public
• Be able to lead and inspire others in the organisation
• Effectively schedule and manage brewery operations
• Committed to continuously improving the beer quality and brewery efficiency
Minimum Requirements:
• Formally educated in brewing and packaging theory
• Production brewing experience
• A good understanding of effective quality management systems
• Experience in developing and scaling beer recipes
• Ability to repeatedly lift 25 kg loads
• Flexible with work schedule
