  • O2 regulator recomendation for inline o2 injection via stone

Is there a specific type of o2 regulator that i should look for for commercial o2 tank? Noticed there was a medical grade and other varuous types and am confused as to what would be ideal for this type of setup.. obviously will have a flow meter as well, thanks for the help

    Use oxygen grade regulator...

Don't use one for other gases. Oxygen grade regulators not only have the correct fitting for the tank, but are also cleaned thoroughly and use no oil. Especially for high pressure oxygen, you don't want oils or impurities in the mechanism. High pressure O2 may oxidize (or burn) this oil/contaminant. Don't think you need medical grade, but certainly one meant for oxygen service. They're not that expensive.

As stated it is very important to use ONLY an Oxygen regulator with Oxygen cylinders for reasons mentioned. Not all oxygen regulators will fit all oxygen cylinders. You can however purchase CGA adapters if needed to fit your type of gas cylinder or regulator, in most cases. Also you may be able to obtain a different valve design from your O2 cylinder supplier to match your needs.

Oxygen cylinders usually require a CGA-870 or a CGA-540 to fit either a smaller "medical type" valve or a "regular industrial" type valve respectively. You should be able to get away with a cheap harbor freight type oxygen welding regulator if your cylinders have the CGA-540 fitting. Do not use any thread sealant or PTFE tape on your oxygen connections. Usually the fittings are brass (non sparking) so they are soft enough you should be able to tighten down without leaks, even after repeated uses.

Off topic a bit, but I still generally advocate for regular (sterile) air over oxygen. Less chance of toxicity to the yeast from over saturation. Cheaper generally.
