  • Hiring a Brewer in Norway- LERVIG

    Hi Guys:
Lervig is a growing brewery located in Stavanger on the west coast of Norway. We currently produce >15000 hL/year of high quality beer from experimental beers to everyday pilsners. We are looking for a new brewer/cellarman with lab abilities to join our small, hardworking team. While passion, skill and a strong work ethic are musts, this person must also be fun and enjoyable to work with.
If successful, this job places you in beautiful Norwegian surroundings, and can include extensive travel to many places for festivals and other brewery-related events if every day tasks in the brewery are completed to a high standard.

    Responsibilities:
    • Responsible for following Standard Operating Procedures and maintaining high quality standards in all areas of beer production.
    • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and presentable work environment.
    • Standard cellar work, including, CIPing tanks, centrifugation, filtration, general cleaning, and double checking that work is done correctly at all times.
    • Dry hop and adjunct processing; dry hopping with a HopGun, Hopnik, and other methods.
    • Familiar with carbonation, and other tasks related to ensuring beer is ready packaging every day.
    • Quality control tasks including spin tests, yeast cell counting, fermentation monitoring and recording, microbiological testing, etc.
    • Physical strength is essential as this job includes continual lifting, dragging, carrying and manipulation of hoses, parts, pumps, buckets, and requires constant standing, walking, crouching and lifting.
    • Perform routine maintenance of all brewery equipment/machinery, and have ability to troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and processes/infrastructure.
    • Must be able to work under the direction of the Beer Production Manager, however the ability to work independently and be self-motivated is just as important. The Production manager prefers to trust the successful applicant to carry out his/her job adequately rather than having to micromanage.
    • Responsible for ensuring that safety procedures are adhered to throughout the brewery.
    • Willingness to assist other departments when necessary, including but not limited to Brewhouse and wort production, cellar, packaging, maintenance, QA/QC lab, and events.
    • Must be familiar with brewing microbiology/QC, and lab duties can be assigned depending on skill and direction.
    • Shift work and overtime occurs regularly and is to be expected.
    • Other duties.

    Education/Experience Requirements:
    - Minimum 2 years professional brewing experience at a >2000hL + /year brewery.
    - A degree in brewing science from an accredited brewing school strongly preferred. Lab experience is also a big advantage.
o Spoken Language in the brewery production is English. So you must speak English.
Please send your CV/résumé, and a short letter of interest (including your thoughts about the craft beer industry) to Mike Murphy mike@lervig.no . We are looking to hire a person who has the skills, passion, and work ethic to be the best brewer they can be. Please do not apply if you don’t meet the qualifications, do not have any professional brewing experience, or do not desire to live and work in Norway.

Please include 3 brewing industry references with your application.Click image for larger version
