  • Zinc Sulfate Heptahydrate stock solution

Picked up 250mg of Zinc Sulfate Heptahydrate (ZnSO₄ x 7H₂O) from BSG. We run a brewlength of between 22 and 33 barrels. Can anyone help me with the best way to make up a working solution and its dosing rates. I used to know the math, at a large regional brewery I used to work we mixed 500g with a certain amount of water to make the stock solution....Is this better than getting an inexpensive gram scale and dosing by weight? Thanks guys/gals.

We use the same type of zinc additive, and although I can't recreate the math I used to figure out our dosage rate, I know we use about 1 gram per 20 bbl of wort. I've never made a solution of it, but I would imagine that it would need to be shaken vigorously before each use since I believe the zinc would settle to the bottom. We bought a triple beam scale, but you could probably get by with a small digital scale. Hope this helps.
