    HR Manager - Buoy Beer Company - Astoria, Oregon

    Buoy Beer Company is looking to add an experienced HR Manager to our growing team. We’re looking for the right personality to handle all things HR, everything from processing payroll and benefits to advising our entire team on policies and procedures. This role will join the rest of our core management team to continue to craft the culture of our company around a great community, high-quality beer & food, and an enjoyable experience.

    Job Summary:
    Our brewery opened in 2014 and it has grown rapidly to around 100 FT & PT people. While our team has done a great job keeping up, we’re ready to add some experienced help to our administration team. This new role for us will begin by learning our current process’ and immediately taking over various day-to-day HR duties; such as payroll, record keeping, and benefits administration. Along with suggesting new approaches to our current operations, this position will also be the point person to work with our founders and management team as we sort out new programs and initiatives. The broad goals for this position, which will surely grow with the company, are to be working towards furthering our culture of a great place to work while keeping us in compliance with an ever-changing employment landscape.

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Understand and foster the growth of the current culture of Buoy Beer.
    • Administer the human resources function and procedures for all company personnel.
    • Ensure that we’re promoting diversity, equality and fairness across all areas of our business.
    • Maintain our Employee Handbook by making recommendations, updating, communicating changes to management and staff, and distributing to employees.
    • Manage the employment process to include job descriptions, full-cycle recruiting, training, on-boarding and development.
    • Manage the development of an HR department to include workforce development, departmental measurements, strategic goals, employee relations, compensation analysis, etc.
    • Manage employee development and progression to include training, reviews and the disciplinary process.
    • Manage, administer, evaluate and recommend changes to company benefit plans.
    • Manage all Worker’s Compensation, unemployment insurance, state disability insurance, etc.
    • Lead the company safety committee to make sure we maintain a safe workplace and meet compliance requirements.
    • Manage employee records and administer payroll, ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations.
    • Conduct employee conduct investigations independently and in partnership with applicable company management as appropriate.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements:
    • This position is based in Astoria, Oregon and will begin in Q1 of 2018. Eligible individuals must live in or be able to relocate to the immediate area within that period and be able to attend interviews at our location.
    • Minimum of a Bachelors degree required.
    • Minimum 2-5 years professional human resources experience.
    • Ability to work both independently and in a team of strong and diverse personalities; also in a somewhat open office with a great view and a couple dogs.
    • Strong organizational, planning and multi-tasking skills.
    • Analytical and critical thinking skills, with ability to exercise sound and unbiased judgment
    • Exceptional and effective communication skills.
    • Effectively lead the development of people, programs and strategic goals.
    • Strong working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations (FMLA, OFLA, ADA etc.).
    • Prior experience in coordinating or managing some combination of recruitment, compensation, employee relations, position classification or employee benefits matters.
    • Attend annual out of town HR related conferences and take active roles in such organizations and groups.
    • Ideally, experience with developing an HR program in a rapidly growing company, especially in the craft beer industry.
