  • Mauribrew "lager 497" cerevisiae or pastorianus

Says on package that it's saccharomyces cerevisiae which is not lager yeast. Then says it's a bottom fermenting strain like a lager, but gives ale temp ranges.

If it's lager yeast it should be pastorianus.

Any one got some insight into these shenanigans?

You are right in the fact it is not a pastorianus. It likes to play in the cooler temperatures, but at the same time will work at higher temps in the middle to upper 80f (30c). I am not an expert on this, but from the research I did on this yeast; I conclude it is similar to the Cablecar from Imperial which is for a California Common and other styles that play in the temperature between a lager and an ale. (I use Cablecar for my California Common and for a Light American Lager and use it for a Pale Ale one right after each other) I think it might be a yeast that could a single house yeast brew house. It can lager (ish) and also make clean ales along with possibly even using it as a saison yeast. It show temps to 89f/32c. So it is not a true lager yeast.
