    Castle Island is looking for a QC Tech to join the team and manage our quality control program at our Norwood, MA production brewery. We’re a rapidly growing brand looking to take things to the next level, and we need the help of seasoned lab pro to oversee all micro, sensory, and packaging QC operations. You’ll work closely with the Head Brewer and production team to ensure that a consistent, high quality product is the only thing we ship.     Things you’ll do on a typical day:
    • Work with Head Brewer, Lead Cellarman, and Packaging Lead to ensure all QC goals are met
    • Communicate with production, sales, and other departments regarding QC-related issues
    • Track fermentation and conditioning of all products daily
    • Develop, maintain, and ensure adherence to SOPs for CIP, CUP, SIP
    • Monitor quality of all incoming raw materials, including ingredients, materials, and supplies
    • Regular yeast maintenance, including cell counts, viabilities, yeast health, and pitching rates
    • Assist with packaging QC, including keg sanitation, can seams, and CO2/DO measurements
    • Perform routine calibrations on multiple measuring devices within the brewery
    • Conduct forced fermentation tests to ensure healthy wort production and yeast performance
    • Managing our sensory analysis program to ensure flavor and aroma profiles are consistent
    • Educate staff on product quality standards

    Things this job requires (and a few we’d really like):
    • Minimum 2 years QC/QA experience, preferably in the alcoholic beverage industry
    • Bonus points for craft beer quality control experience
    • Proficiency with a microscope and other micro-related instruments and labware
    • Thorough understanding of recipe development and calcs on equipment of all sizes
    • Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills
    • A strong understanding of potential QC breach points and ability to prevent cross contamination
    • Undivided attention to details, both big and small
    • Accurate and detailed record keeping
    • Bonus points for proven ability to proficiently operate a forklift
    • Ability to consistently lift 55 pounds and maneuver 160 pounds with assistance
    • Proper handling of hazardous materials and operation of complex moving machinery
    • Willingness to participate in company events and promotions both at and outside the brewery
