    The District of Columbia Brewers' Guild (DCBG) is looking to hire a highly motivated Executive Director to lead our organization.

    Organization
    Founded in 2013, the District of Columbia Brewers' Guild (DCBG) exists to unify the Washington, D.C., brewing community by honoring D.C.'s brewing heritage, fostering community development & pride, educating consumers, promoting shared business interests, and encouraging sustainable growth.

    Position Summary
    The Executive Director (ED) is a full-time exempt (salaried) position, responsible for the successful leadership and management of the DCBG, following the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors.

    The ED reports to the Board of Directors and stewards the organization to be financially sound, will have strategic and operational responsibility for the DCBG's staff, programs, development, and will oversee the achievement of its mission and objectives. The DCBG is primarily seeking a candidate with strong organizational and administrative skills who can manage the day-to-day operations of the organization, who has solid experience in events planning and implementation, and experience in non-profit development and fundraising.

    Additionally, the ED will be responsible for developing and maintaining deep knowledge of the craft beer landscape, relevant policy issues both at the national and local level, the DCBG membership, local community and stakeholders, core programs, operations, and business plan.

    Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to:
    1. Leadership & Management
    o Manage the day-to-day operations of the organization by adhering to organizational policy and ensuring that strategy is implemented
    o Oversee the execution of all organizational programming and member services
    o Maintain organizational policies and procedures and review existing policies on a regular basis and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate
    2. Membership
    o Oversee maintenance of organization's membership operations
    o Manage and update the membership management system and database
    o Develop and execute strategy for membership solicitation and maintain active membership levels
    3. Fundraising & Development
    o Oversee fundraising efforts in coordination with and reporting to the Board of Directors
    o Expand and oversee local revenue-generating and fundraising activities and events to ensure the support of existing and developing program operations and expansion
    o Direct DC Beer Week planning/execution including facilitation of meetings, creating and managing budget, securing sponsorship, and managing established relationships/sponsorships
    4. Communications
    o Oversee and maintain the organization's current communications strategy - from web presence to external relations - with the goal of creating a stronger brand
    o Oversee all of DCBG's internal and external communications, including its website, social media, print and online publications, member communications (especially the quarterly newsletter), board updates, and more
    o Build a local and national presence by communicating in both written and oral form about the DCBG, our mission, and programmatic efforts with an emphasis on the successes of the Guild
    o Coordinate and execute publicity for event promotion
    5. Financial & Government Oversight
    o Operate within the approved budget of the organization and take responsibility for drafting the initial annual budget for the Board of Directors
    o Oversee and ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed
    o Administer payroll, and oversee and ensure compliance with financial and tax requirements related to the organization, and oversee tax filings and other document preparation at the local and federal level
    o File biannual reports for D.C. Government
    6. Community Relations & Advocacy
    o Build partnerships, establish relationships with the funders, and political and community leaders within the District, nationally, and internationally
    o Develop and employ relationships and presence with the local City Council and national brewery thought leaders to promote the DCBG, our efforts, and successes
    o Regularly seek opportunities to represent the organization at community activities, conferences, and meetings to enhance the organization's profile

    Qualifications
    The ED will be thoroughly committed to the DCBG's mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, organizational management, and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
    o Undergraduate degree accepted with relevant experience. Advanced degree preferred. Some management experience; track record of effectively leading an organization and staff in the voluntary sector; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
    o Self-motivated and able to work independently as the sole employee of the organization
    o Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
    o Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performing teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
    o Proven track record of coordinating and executing large and small-scale events
    o Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
    o Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
    o Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
    o Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to organizational planning
    o Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
    o Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
    o Knowledge of all federal and local legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations including: employment standards, occupational health and safety, taxation, health coverage, etc.
    o Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization
    o Must have familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access

    Work Environment
    • o ED will work in an office environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.
      o ED works during the standard work week and may work evenings and weekends to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing the organization at public and partner events.
      o ED will be expected to travel throughout the year to events representing the DCBG at National and other industry related events (e.g., Craft Brewers Conference, National Gatherings of the Guilds, Great American Beer Festival, etc.).
      o ED's work space will be located in the Heurich House Museum and may also work from the various brewery member's breweries.
      o ED must be located in the D.C.-metro area and preferably live within the City of Washington, D.C.
