Brouwerij West – Head Brewer
Brouwerij West is looking for a head brewer to take charge of its packaging brewery in the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles. After 2 years of brewing and growing our company, we are expanding our production and looking for a head brewer to oversee all brewery operations. Our unique location in The Port of Los Angeles is a 7-acre property with two WWII-era warehouses. Our warehouse space is over 26,000 square feet, including an 8k sq foot indoor tasting room and an expansive outdoor beer garden.
We are looking for a head brewer with production brewery experience and a serious interest in quality production. We are also looking for a person who shares our love of traditional Belgian brewing & NEIPA, craft malting, unique ingredients, dry-hopping techniques, and our lack of needing to fit in as a brand.
Job Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
· Managing and operating the brewhouse on a day-to-day basis
· Ensuring consistent quality beer production
· Developing new beers
· Selecting ingredients and procuring supplies for production and handling raw materials
· Creating and managing beer production schedules with production manager
· Executing a meticulous quality control program and overseeing our lab program
· Supervising beer production staff and working with management on personnel decisions with respect to these employees
· Maintaining a safe and immaculately clean work environment
· Participating in events, festivals, and other marketing activities, both on- and off-site
Minimum Qualifications:
Our ideal candidate should possess the following Experience:
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in a packaging brewery, with an intimate knowledge of all brewery operations and the brewing process, including: brewing chemistry and process, malting, hop varieties, fermentation, yeast management, recipe creation, packaging, quality control, loss prevention, preventative maintenance, sanitation, microbiology, and inventory management.
Our ideal candidate should possess the following Attributes:
· Strong and demonstrated leadership and interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
· Fluency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Testing, measurement, and record-keeping are important to us in ensuring quality consistent beer production.
· Entrepreneurial nature and meticulous attention to detail.
· Experience with Orchestrated Beer
· A love for brewing and solving brewing problems.
· A desire to have fun (while certain things must be kept formal, we also like to keep things light whenever we can).
Brewing is demanding physically and mentally. As such, candidates should be prepared for and capable of long hours and intense physical activity. Our ideal candidate should possess the following Skills and Abilities:
· Ability to consistently lift overhead and move at least 55 pounds repeatedly.
· Ability to reach frequently with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl on hard surfaces and in small, confined spaces, and climb stairs and ladders.
· Ability to operate a forklift safely.
· Ability to work in an environment that may be wet and is not climate-controlled, and be exposed to strong and sometimes disagreeable odors and handle concentrated chemicals.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule and work standing for as much as 8+ hours per day.
This a full-time, salaried position. We offer salary commensurate with experience and benefits for the right candidate. Qualified candidates will be required to interview in person in Los Angeles, CA if selected.
