    Mission Statement

    Position Summary
    The Head Brewer must be able to manage multiple priorities, while problem solving quickly and efficiently, while addressing and supporting the needs of his or her staff. The position oversees all operations in the brewery including brewing, cellaring, QA, packaging and production, warehouse, maintenance needs, plant administration, managing operating budgets, distributor relationships, TTB, OTCO and other government agency reporting. Lead brewing staff members to ensure safe and efficient production of all products at the highest quality level.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    STRATEGY

    o Manage the strategic plan with the CEO by defining, completing and summarizing the components associated with the strategic plan on an on-going basis to ensure projects are within the sales plan guidelines.
    o Finalize and support the Company’s mission, vision and values.
    o Manage activities and resource requirements to ensure inter-departmental alignment with the strategic plan.
    o Participating in developing the overall growth strategy of the brewery.

     B-CORP

    o Create, manage and help drive the financial, social and environmental plan to ensure success and alignment with B Corp standards.
    o Assist with the production and submission of the annual Sustainability Report.

     FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

    o Manage an operating budget. Assist with capital budget with Owner and Director of Finance
    o Ensure timely financial reporting.
    o Control operating costs and inventory

     OPERATIONS

    o Oversee all process and production operations including: day-to-day process issues, recipe management, operating policies, procedures, quality, release parameters, beer distribution network, and safety policies.
    o Formulate and update recipes as needed when conditions change and/or raw materials drift to keep finished beer within specifications.
    o Evaluate and provide reporting internally and to government agencies.
    o Oversee brewery hiring, evaluations, discipline, and team morale.
    o Oversee vendor, contractor and distributor relationships
    o Prepare schedules for brewing, beer transfer, packaging and staffing.
    o Source, order and maintain inventory of all raw materials for beer production and packaging.
    o Oversees functionality and maintenance of all brewing equipment, CIP equipment, water delivery equipment, and sewer related systems.
    o Assists with the development of new products including recipes, descriptions, standard costs and revision controls.
    o Cover for production and brewing roles as needed.

     COMMUNICATIONS

    o Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team.
    o Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team.
    o Provide CEO with project status updates and recommend corrective actions to ensure commitments are met.
    o Create and manage department dashboards to track the progress.

     CULTURE

    o Promote healthy team culture through regular team building activities.
    o Promote the HUB brand in the consumer sector when visiting bars, restaurants and stores that sell beer.
    o Ensure the HUB culture is maintained by demonstrating team player qualities with all HUB team members
    o Demonstrate entrepreneurial mindset when performing operational responsibilities

    Required Skills & Experience

    • 5 years professional brewing experience, ideally in a supervisory role.
    • A bachelor’s degree and/or certificate from the Institute and Guild of Brewing (or a comparable education) is preferred. Ultimately, advanced knowledge of brewing science is needed.
    • Knowledge of safe chemical handling, safe work operations, safety policies and procedures
    • Organizational skills
    • Time management skills
    • Communication skills (written and verbal).
    • PC proficiency and knowledge of controls software
    • Mechanical aptitude

    Equipment Required to Operate or to Use

    • 3-vessel brewhouse, with water and CIP systems
    • Malt mill and malt transfer system
    • Clean-in-place
    • 10m2 DE beer filter
    • Pumps: centrifugal, diaphragm, peristaltic, rotary
    • Dissolved gas analyzers: CO2, O2, and N2
    • Flow meters
    • Pinpoint carbonator
    • Cartridge air and water filters
    • Large ferment vessels and other holding tanks
    • Pressure/temperature gauges and instrumentation
    • Gas regulators
    • Process and utility piping network
    • Forklift
    • Scissors lift

    Licenses and/or Certifications:

    Forklift Certification, OSHA required training

    Management Responsibility:

    Entire brewing staff

    Physical Requirements
    • Able to stand for long periods of time (up to 8-10 hours per day).
    • Able to frequently lift heavy materials (minimum 55 lb. boxes shoulder high up to 50 times daily).
    • Able to frequently climb ladders. Ladder climbing over 20 feet. Able to perform job while standing on a ladder
    • Occasional work on tanks over 23 inches high
    • Able to work in wet, tight or cramped space.
    • Able to work in an environment with high noise levels
    • Able to work with hazardous chemicals
    • Able to frequently duck under conveyors/equipment.
    • Able to occasionally climb stairs.
    • Able to work in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
    • Able to frequently grasp with one or both hands
    • Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (respirators, ear plugs, boots, etc)
