    JOB TITLE: Brewing Personnel Manager
    LOCATION: Brewery, Comstock, MI
    REPORTS TO: Brewing Manager
    FLSA POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Salaried Exempt
    EXTERNAL POSTING DATES: 02/26/2018 – 03/18/2018

    POSITION SUMMARY: As a key member of the Brewing leadership team, the Brewing Personnel Manager will lead all aspects of the day-to-day operation at Bell’s production brewery in Comstock, MI. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe work environment, interviewing and hiring new Brewers and Shift Leads, working closely with HR, facilitating communication, upholding Bell’s quality standards, optimizing current processes and helping prepare for future growth.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery and is accountable for the safety of his/her direct reports.
    •Leads all day-to-day activities necessary to make Bell’s high quality beer.
    •Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork within the department and the company.
    •Advocates a continuous improvement culture throughout his/her team.
    •Actively engages the Brewers and Shift Leads towards developing their professional goals.
    •Conducts annual performance appraisals with all direct reports.
    •Conducts monthly one on ones with all direct reports.
    •Coordinates with HR for interviewing and hiring of all new Brewers and Shift Leads.
    •Coordinates with HR to effect disciplinary measures when necessary.
    •Leads meetings of Shift Leads to ensure effective communication across all shifts.
    •Effectively represent Brewing in weekly cross department meetings regarding Safety, HR, Quality and Production.
    •Assists in development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as necessary.
    •Holds self and brewers accountable for adhering to SOPs and maintaining a sanitary and micro-biologically stable work environment.
    •Ensures completion of Brewer’s Preventative Maintenance tasks.
    •Ensures Microsoft AX Brewing Data Entry and Accuracy within Brewing Department with Shift Leads.
    •Facilitates future growth of the brewery through continuous optimization of current processes.
    •Assists in implementation of new equipment and processes.
    •Works with senior management on new product development initiatives.
    •Conducts critical assessment of Bell’s beers through active participation in raw material and beer sensory panels.
    •Flexible schedule. 24-hour, 7-day on-call status, required.
    •Shift coverage as necessary.

    Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
    •Must possess a valid driver’s license
    •Access to a personal vehicle.

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:
    •Computers and other process automation systems
    •Brewing raw materials
    •Cleaning and sanitizing chemicals
    •Centrifuge
    •Pumps
    •Hoses, valves, clamps, gaskets, and other brewery equipment

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Exceptional leadership skills.
    •Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable addressing diverse groups.
    •Strong computer skills necessary to quickly learn Bells’ software systems.
    •An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards who will positively represent Bell’s Brewery both internally and externally.
    •A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
    •Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple processes at one time.
    •Self-motivated with good time management skills.
    •Ability to coordinate with other departments according to schedule.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    •At least 5 years of production experience, preferably at a regional sized brewery.
    •Previous leadership or management experience.
    •A brewing certification, diploma or degree.
    •Outstanding communication and problem solving skills.

    •Must be able to participate in critical assessment of beers.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    •Work is primarily performed in an office environment with frequent trips to operational areas required.
    •The work environment is that of a brewing and packaging facility.
    •The employee frequently must work in a sanitary environment.
    •The noise level in the packaging facilities is frequently loud (90+ dB).
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, steam and flame.
    •The employee regularly works with pressurized vessels.
    •The employee comes in contact with and has to handle broken glass.
    •The employee handles hazardous materials.
    •The employee works near moving mechanical parts.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
    •The employee may occasionally enter a confined space.
