ASSISTANT BREWER JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Class: Non-Exempt Reports To: Brewer
Job Summary: Responsible for assisting the Brewer with brewing batches of different beers to offer for sale to patrons of the brewery from start to finish.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: NOTE: Nexus Brewery unilaterally may change the requirements of this job description at any time. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assist with completing the brewing process in a safe and efficient manner. This includes, but is not limited to, milling, mashing, and lautering, wort boiling, cooling and transferring to fermenters.
• Maintaining the use of standard operating procedures unless otherwise instructed.
• Monitor, pitch and evaluate yeast as needed.
• Ensure supply of raw materials and other inventory items such as:
o Bulk Malt
o Specialty malts
o Hops
o Brewing Salts and kettle additives
o Safety Equipment
o Chemicals
• Maintain cleanliness of all areas in the brew house.
• Communicate regularly and efficiently with Nexus staff.
• Follow SOP’s to meet quality specifications and ensure proper keg line operations.
• Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and on time.
• Maintain yeast disposal, and grain area cleanup schedule.
• Perform all tasks in an efficient, safe and productive manner.
• Maintain inventory as needed.
• Report and low levels of inventory to your supervisor when necessary.
• Monitor gravities, temperatures, DO, and carbonations daily.
• Be responsible for ensuring that security procedures are adhered to throughout the building.
• The complete brewing process from grinding to filling the fermenters.
• Tracking all data points carefully during the batch.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications (includes education, skills and experience): The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Minimum high school graduate, or equivalent
• BA/BS in Engineering or a related field preferred.
• Excellent communication skills (verbally interacts with management, servers, team members and guests)
• Knowledge of workplace safety procedures
• Ability to read and write
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check

• Able to work with a diverse group of people; team player
• Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, and use time efficiently to complete work in a timely manner to meet deadlines

• Brewery environment
• Hazards may include, but are not limited to, cuts from broken glass and metal cans, burns, slipping and tripping
• Exposure to heat, cold and some chemical exposure
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear
• This position requires frequent manual dexterity in combination with eye/hand coordination such as keyboarding and handling of equipment
• The employee frequently is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls
• The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
• The employee is frequently required to stand and walk (majority of shift)
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• The noise level in the work environment is usually medium
