    JOB TITLE: Lead Land Steward
    LOCATION(S): Brewery, Comstock, MI and Downtown Retail Campus
    REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager
    FLSA POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Hourly Non-Exempt
    EXTERNAL POSTING DATES: 03/26/2018-04/15/2018

    POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Land Steward is responsible for the outdoor spaces at all of Bell’s Comstock and Kalamazoo properties. Maintains safe and esthetic campuses through low impact systems, implementation of best management practices, and exhaustive attention to detail. Responsible for Bell’s 2.2 acre hop yard, Downtown Beer garden, and snow removal at all Comstock and Kalamazoo properties.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery, Inc., and is accountable for the safety of their crew.
    •Leads all day-to-day Land Stewardship activities.
    •Leads and motivates a crew of Land Stewards and Grounds Technicians to accomplish additional tasks.
    •Uphold all policies and procedures according to handbook and department.
    •Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork within the department and the company.
    •Leads meetings of Land Stewards and Grounds Technicians.
    •Maintains the exterior esthetic of the Comstock and Downtown Retail Campuses through direct action and oversight of 3rd party contractors.
    •Develops cost effective management and continuous improvement systems consistent with environmental best practices for the Bell’s Hop Yard including but not limited to fertigation, soil testing, soil amendments, integrated pest management, trellis maintenance, and hop harvest.
    •Develops cost effective management and continuous improvement systems consistent with environmental best practices for the Bell’s snow management systems.
    •Procures the requisite equipment, materials, and services to ensure a safe exterior area; notifies manager concerning needed repairs, safety hazards, or conditions.
    •Develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures and provides training for areas of expertise including but not limited to snow removal, winterization of sensitive vegetation, pest scouting, hop harvest, and trellis maintenance.
    •Coordinates exterior signage at all Comstock locations as well as potential changes with Downtown Retail Campus locations.
    •Works closely with the Facilities Manager to coordinate assistance and collaborative tasks.
    •Assists the Environmental Engineer in the execution of Storm Water Pollution and Prevention planning and compliance.
    •Responsible for ensuring the Eccentric Café beer garden is restored after each round of shows.
    •Develops and maintains annual budgets and KPIs including but not limited to hop yard operation, lawn and tree care, and snow removal.
    •Cultivates opportunities for Bell’s staff and beer lovers to engage the natural environment at all Comstock and Downtown Kalamazoo Retail Campus properties.
    •Responsible for winged and non-winged pest control/removal by either the Land Stewardship team or by a third party contractor at both the Comstock and Downtown Kalamazoo locations.
    •Develops and maintains an employee garden at the Comstock Campus.
    •Assists the Sustainability Specialist with the implementation of composting systems at the Comstock and Downtown Kalamazoo Retail Campuses.
    •Assists the Events Manager at the Eccentric Café with event execution in regards to the Garden or floral/plant-based event needs.
    •Works closely with Operations Manager and Operations Lead to coordinate beer garden work and event support.
    •Coordinates mowing, trimming and weeding operations at both the Comstock and Downtown Kalamazoo locations.
    •Develops and maintains Master Site Plans for outdoor utility systems.
    •Acts as the Bell’s liaison for construction which alters the land use designation of the Comstock properties and provides potential insight and guidance for Kalamazoo properties.
    •Maintains and cultivates interior plantings and vegetation.
    •Flexible schedule. 24-hour, 7-day availability required.
    •Assists with annual reviews of land stewardship/grounds employees.

    Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

    MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •On-duty land steward and grounds tech staff

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
    •Valid Driver’s License
    •Reliable transportation

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:
    •PC skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint)
    •Industrial class vehicle
    •Crossover Utility Vehicles and multiple attachments
    •Utility Tractor and multiple attachments
    •Forklift Trucks
    •Company Vehicle

    •Strong knowledge and experience with developing and maintaining landscapes at food production facilities.
    •Experience and knowledge of best practices for snow removal.
    •Understanding of soil quality metrics and their impacts on hop cultivation and yield.
    •Recognition of the value of facilitating positive interactions with natural spaces.
    •A deep awareness of the importance of sanitation and good maintenance practices in food processing environments.
    •The ability to safely handle concentrated fertilizers and other potentially hazardous chemicals or wastes.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    •Previous Management/Leadership experience.
    •Knowledge of low impact land management systems.
    •Experience and/or training in landscaping and snow removal.
    •Experience with agricultural best practices, preferably in hop cultivation.
    •Understanding of Storm Water Management Practices.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    •That of a food processing facility, a warehouse facility, as well as an office environment.
    •A food processing facility is a continuously clean/sterile environment.
    •The noise level in certain parts of the brewery is occasionally loud (80-90 dB).
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, flame, hot water, and steam.
    •The employee regularly works with hazardous materials.
    •The employee works near moving mechanical parts.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
    •Frequent Travel between Kalamazoo and Comstock facilities.
