  • Cost per Batch

I was looking for some general information on the cost of producing a 5BBL and a 10BBL batch?
What is the going rate for malt/s, yeast, and hops at these batch sizes.
    Thank you for the help.
    Cheers

Obviously it will vary depending on your ingredients. You will spend 22-36 cents per pound for base malt if you buy in bulk (Silo). 22C for GW domestic 2-row and 36C for imported Crisp Malt. Specialty malt is about 50 cents a lb for good European malts and around 35 cents a lb for cheaper domestic malts. Also hop prices are about 4-5$ a lb depending on variety and quantity.
An IPA with 15 lbs of hops is going to cost more than a hefe with 3 lbs of hops. Yeast from White labs is aprox. 70$ for enough to pitch 1 BBl which you could then propagate up to 10 BBls or about 270$ for enough to pitch your whole 10 BBl batch. This cost will be spread out over as many generations as you use the yeast for. Also gravity is going to determine how much malt used per batch. A light beer at 10 P will use a lot less malt than a 21 P Barley wine. For a 10 BBl batch of an average 13 P beer your looking at about 550 lbs of malt or so depending on your systems efficiency. Hope this helps. You can tell it will vary greatly depending on the beer style and ingredients used.
