  • Trub Uses?

Our farmer doesn't want/won't take our trub. He says his elk are very picky and they won't like the residual bitterness. Any one have any good ideas for uses for the trub and any documentation to prove it? I imagine composting would be a great option, but there is a lot of liquid left in the hops. We are producing 10-15k bbls a year so we have a fair amount of it to dispose of. We are in a rural area with no pig farms or any of the other "standard" option. Any ideas?

    Trub trouble

    Hi Buster,
There's an ongoing coversation here http://probrewer.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=3644 about the similar problem of disposing of spent grains. You'll find some good ideas there. Have you checked with the garden composting operations around town?
    Cheers!

Trub is high in nitrogen and if your in a rural area then you should be able to grow mushrooms using some sawdust ,spent grain and trub as a substrate for growing gourmet mushrooms or as you said use it for compost or throw it into a biodigestor to produce electricity.

Feeding livestock grain directly isn't the most efficient use of spent grain anyway .
