  • Stainless tea bag?

Hi all, I'm assuming someone has found the perfect stainless steel giant tea ball or cylinder that fits in a manway type thing for use instead of a cheesecloth/hop sack/spicebag type thing. Mind sharing?

I would love to find something like this.
I guess, we could have them made by any well trained stainless welder... but there must be some around.

Never heard of such a thing, but someone has to have it. Sounds like an opportunity for someone to make some money.

There are 5" tea infusers on ebay. Biggest I've come across. You could probably make a larger ball by cutting the handles off two large strainers and clamping together.

The perforated stainless cylinder in a Bavarian hopback makes a nice infuser. http://bavarianbrewerytech.com/forsale/hopback.htm

McMaster-Carr has some great stainless screen. You could easily fold it and sew up the seam with stainless wire stripped from an edge. I used it to captivate my fresh hops and keep them submerged while dry/wet hopping.
              Not all that cheap, though!

I took some nylon window (door) sheers, folded them in half and sewed the edges up. I used nylon thread and covered the seam with reinforcing tape and put a drawstring through the pockets that were already in the top and bottom of the sheers.

Worked like a champ and retained pellet hops too. Only problem was the sheer (no pun intended) weight of the wet hops afterwards.

I used to buy nylon lingerie bags at the grocery store next door to my pub (look in the laundry Isle). These have a coarser mesh than a hopsock. I'd pull off the aluminum zipper part and close the opening with a couple of boiled zip ties.

Worked a treat for dryhopping with leaf hops.

Is this where all my missing socks went?

                          Anyone Still Interested?

If anyone is still interested in something like this, I might be able to help you out but I need some dimensions. I would basically like to create a giant tea ball with stainless mesh.

                            Super hop bag

Bump! I would also love to see an option for using this on a 10 bbl system.

How big do you need? Why not take an angle grinder to a 5 gallon keg?
