Any thoughts on APV vs Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers. Both are around the same price for the flow that I hope to put through. Looking for anyone with pros or cons on either manufacturer.

There shouldn't be a problem with either but try to get glueless ones. I think both supply them. The key to any heat exchanger is sizing them properly, knowing the product flow rate, temerature in and desired temperature(s) out, the coolant temperature in and out and being able to control the flow rates within a reasonably narrow tolerance. Make sure your cleaning system can supply at 130 to 150 % of product design flow rate to be able to clean the PHE effectively.
After that go for the one who is most local and will guarantee suitable rapid spares backup.dick
