  • Trub & Yeast to manure pit

does anyone have any experience disposing of yeast and trub in a manure pit?

You should get in touch with grassrootsvt (Shaun) on this forum. This is his planned disposal method for the brewery he is opening next year. He had to to do quite a bit of research and wrangling with the VT environmental people to get the permit plan together and you can bet he is very knowledgeable about this subject.

My take on this as a longtime homebrewer and environmental lab rat is that brewery waste is very similar to diluted manure, composition-wise. As long as the liquid component doesn't overwhelm the pit capacity, I see little potential for significant problems. Maybe some farmer/brewers can correct me?

Manure pit? Hey, back when I started in the industry here in the UK we used to sell the old, skimmed yeast to make Marmite!*

(*A thick, dark, yeast-based spread that actually tastes excellent on fresh-baked bread...)
