  • Steam Heat Exchanger

Anyone using a steam heat exchanger to heat water for cleaning/sterilization etc? I was considering this as opposed to a hot water on demand system.

By the time I put in enough control to maintain proper temps on the output I think I might as well by the pair of Rinnai's I was originally looking at.

    Cheers,
    Steve

We are using a steam heat exchanger for heating our HLT. Recircs through the heat x, pick a setpoint and away it goes. Main reason for this is steam jackets on HLT failed, and have been disconnected.

Thanks! So what size is your heat exchanger and what control mechanism do you use to maintain temperature? I assume you are running a low pressure steam boiler.

Check with Jeff at Ithaca Beer Company, they installed one and really like it.

SHouldn't be too hard. They make nice brazed heat exchangers now with no gaskets. Just put a solenoid on the steam in, and a temperature controller on the HLT, and a condensate trap on the outlet.
