    A leader in marketing and selling specialty and imported beer in the United States, North American Breweries imports and markets Labatt Blue and Labatt Blue Light, the No. 1 & No. 2 Canadian beers in the U.S., along with Genesee, Magic Hat, Pyramid and the Dundee family of craft beers, Seagram’s Coolers and other specialty and imported brands.

    DESCRIPTION

    The Berkeley Safety Proctor will be the resident HACCP expert.

    The Safety Proctor is responsible for auditing the workplace for hazards, developing solutions to eliminate those hazards, communicating the solution to other employees and evaluating progress as the solution is implemented. Expected to implement new processes or equipment to insure safety. Make sure of adherence to company health and safety rules and rules set forth by government entities such as OSHA. Accountable for training documentation and presentation as well as development of emergency response plans.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, preparing for audits, training and enforcing rules
    • Coordinate projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
    • Confer with management, production, and maintenance staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
    • Oversee Brewery safety program, lead safety committee, implement and communicate the Brewery safety incentive program.
    • Define, develop, deliver and coordinate safety, compliance and training policies and programs, comply with Federal and state mandates.
    • Expand and enhance existing safety program to maintain a high level of safety awareness and performance.
    • Coordinate required staff refresher training and monitoring and provide safety training for new hires
    • Develop or review and approve site-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), including defining contaminant exposure action levels, PPE selection and PPE upgrade action levels. Develop, review and/or implement job and task-specific Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) & safety SOPs.
    • In conjunction with Human Resources, maintain OSHA-mandated safety incident logs
    • Oversee subcontractor safety pre-qualification process, safety incident reporting, investigation and follow-up activities
    • Conduct site safety inspections & audits, equipment inspections, subcontractor safety prequalification screening, and shop safety audits.
    • Implementation and maintenance of MSDS compliance system.
    • Participate in accident investigations; develop supporting JSA and SOP re-writes as a result.
    • Create and document SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
    • Experience in HACCP program development and maintenance desirable.
    • Safety trainer certification(s) desirable
    • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations, particularly in relation to general construction, HAZWOPER, and environmental regulations
    • 2+ years experience in safety/compliance coordination.
    • Demonstrated experience in safety program implementation, preferably in a manufacturing setting
    • Knowledge of air monitoring instrumentation and techniques for organic chemicals


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

    • Standing for long periods of time (up to 8-10 hours per day).
    • Lifting heavy materials (50 lb. boxes shoulder high).
    • Constantly ducking under conveyors/equipment.
    • Climbing ladder next to rotating filler to fill crown hopper.
    • Routine pushing, pulling, reaching, upper body and arm rotation, and climbing, some bending, stooping and standing
    • Able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (ear plugs, boots, etc)
    • Very high noise levels in/around bottling line (ear protection required).
    • Handling of hazardous materials (hazardous chemicals, solvents and cleaners).
    • Exposure to various temperature levels within brewery (high in summer months, low in winter months).
    • Wet, slippery floors; High volumes of broken glass.
    • Inhaling high levels of CO2.
    • Working around moving machinery.
