  • 271 gallon brew kettle output

    Hello,

Was looking at this brew kettle http://www.glaciertanks.com/Brew_Ket...Lid_7_BBL.html

It has a total volume of 271gallons and stating that it is for 7bbl. Is 271 gallons total kettle volume large enough a 7bbl batch? If not, what do you think is the largest brew output from a kettle this size with enough headspace? Would a 6.5bbl from this kettle size work?

    Thanks!

25% head space is standard on most everything from kettles to tanks. 217 x 1.25 = 271. We only lose 10% on boil so I would think that will be plenty of room for 7 BBL

Most long-standing brewery manufacturers use 50-100% head space in the kettle. If you figure you're going to lose 15% from knockout to brite tank, even if you filled that thing to the "flooded volume" you're getting just above 7 barrels. I'm guessing you could realistically get about 5.5 -6 BBLs brite beer.
