  • Any craft lager makers propagating yeast from slants/plates?

We're a small nano who makes ales at lengths of only 300L, and for each brew we grow a new batch of yeast from slants up to 12-14L (using stir plates over 6 days) without much of a problem. Ferments go very well and the output is really good.

We've decided to make a few occasional lagers at around 6%, but have doubts about being able to make enough yeast. From my calculations, at OG1060 we'll need more than 36L of yeast!
Can anyone confirm that they've been able to do this? I'm loathe to buy in a pitchable volume, or to go back to dried yeast which would be easier, but sacrifice flavour?
Having 2 side by side propagators/stir plates sounds the way to go, but involves building another propagator for this occasional use?
