    We are in the process of developing a local restaurant & brewery concept for downtown Evanston, IL. The name of the Business is: Smylie Brothers Brewing Co. Evanston is a unique community as it straddles the suburbs of the North Shore on one side and the City of Chicago on the other. It is also home to Northwestern University. We already have our local liquor license and would like to open our facility by the end of the summer. We are looking for a Head Brewer to control the brewery side of the business.     The ideal candidate will possess:
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a Commercial Production Brewery or High Volume Brew Pub.
    • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a related technical field or a High School Diploma with three (3) years manufacturing experience in a brewery environment.
    • Must have strong communication skills with good team dynamics and possess strong planning and organizational skills.
    • Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Must have knowledge of recipe development.
    • Must have a solid understanding of all aspects of brewing, cellaring, yeast handling, CIP and sanitizing.
    • Must have a strong mechanical background with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical problems.
    • Must have the ability to execute brewery preventative maintenance (PM) program.
    • Should have prior packaging, bottling and racking experience.
    • Should have a good understanding of Laboratory Operations /Quality Assurance /Quality Control, with a basic knowledge of chemistry and biology.
    • Should have a strong work ethic and the ability to multitask.
    • Should have self-motivation and the ability to work alone, as well as the ability to work efficiently as part of a team.
    • Must be computer literate in spreadsheets and Microsoft Office.
    • Must be willing to engage with customers and represent brewpub at festivals and competitions.

    Job duties and responsibilities include:
    • Oversee Final Equipment Installation
    • Brew and oversee the brewing and packaging operations
    • Recipe development
    • Production scheduling
    • Supervise lab work
    • Maintain all brewing equipment including CIP and SIP
    • Managing Assistant/Apprentice Brewer
    • Inventory management
    • Expansion plan development and implementation
    • Educate Front of House staff on production and beer styles

    Brewery Details
    • Sprinkman 3 vessel 10 barrel brewhouse.
    • Annual expected production 600+ bbls.
    • 160 seat brewpub
