  • Head Brewer in Seattle

We're starting a 15bbl brewery and taproom in Seattle and are looking for a head brewer. This is an opportunity to participate in building a brewery from scratch, from designing the brewhouse, selecting the equipment, designing the brewery interior and exterior, choosing which styles to brew and formulating the recipes, managing the production schedule, improving efficiency, as well as representing the brand to customers. Edit: To be clear, we don't expect the brewer to literally build the brewery, i.e., construction, electrical, etc. We mean "building a brewery" in the figurative sense.

There are a lot of breweries in Seattle but what makes this brewery different is that it will be located in the heart of the city on Capitol Hill, not in an industrial park or warehouse space outside the city. The location does not change the beer or automatically make it "more hip", but it does mean we will have a large taproom with the goal of introducing a wide variety of beer to a wide variety of people, not just the beer geeks who make the trip out to the brewery. The brewer here needs to love the challenge of making all different styles, relish the opportunity for creativity, and have the determination to make every beer something you're proud of.

It may sound like a great opportunity, but it's a startup so expect to haul grain, clean, serve beer at festivals, identify and fix problems yourself, run errands, etc. Your personality matters because everyone is an ambassador for the company and you will meet your customers face-to-face. We are strong believers in "The No Asshole Rule" -- it is a real thing, Google it.

The ideal candidate is someone with 5+ years of professional brewing experience, a degree from Siebel or UC Davis, a 4-year undergraduate degree in biology or chemistry, a passion for crafting beer, an optimistic attitude and a desire to collaborate and work well with others.

Competitive salary and benefits. Willing to relocate the right candidate. The Head Brewer will become a part-owner of the brewery, an integral part of the company and be with us for a very long time so we will be selective, as you should be with us.

Please send email or PDF resumes to troy@optionalcorp.com.
