    The Southern Tier Brewing Company is seeking a hard working, highly motivated, quality focused, safety driven, and team oriented Purchasing & Inventory Manager to join the team in our rapidly growing, fast paced, production brewery in beautiful Lakewood, NY.


    Purchasing & Inventory Manager

    The ideal candidate will possess:

    Minimum of four (4) years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
    Minimum of an Associate’s Degree or a High School Diploma with two (2) years manufacturing experience in a related field such as supply chain management, business administration, or accounting.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Purchase, maintain and monitor raw materials and packaging supplies.
    • Manage inventory levels of brews in process and finished products.
    • Prepare purchase orders for raw materials and brewing supplies based on need. Work with brewing department regarding brew schedules, recipes and usage.
    • Post inventory receipts and monitor material receiving.
    • Review and post adjustments and work with brewing department on quantity adjustments.
    • Monitor inventory levels – coordinate with departments on physical inventory counts, reconcile and review differences.
    • Negotiate contracts with suppliers.
    • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.
    • Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and to determine need for changes.
    • Maintain and review records of items purchased, costs, deliveries, product performance, and inventories.
    • Arrange the payment of duty and freight charges.
    • Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and other data and information to determine reasonable prices.
    • Entry of sales orders and invoices, including receiving orders and communicating with purchasing departments from customers.
    • Daily review of purchase requests - Prioritizing of items as either small, necessary items for immediate purchase or larger, questionable items for further review; Entry of larger, questionable items into purchase request database to await for management review.
    • Physical inventory counts of raw materials, brews in process, and finished products on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
    • Review and entry of logs and reports from previous day(s) production and sales.
    • Review and reconciliation of physical inventory to reported inventory - Research any discrepancies to find out the cause of the discrepancy; Review of discrepancies with department managers.
    • Understanding of the production process to avoid stock outs and ensure proper supply and reserve supply of raw materials.
    • Order supplies and raw materials to ensure optimal price and delivery cycle - Communicating with suppliers and other vendors; Following up to ensure accurate, consistent, and on time deliveries; Grouping of orders to reduce shipping cost; Ordering effectively to allow for delivery and minimize time spent on purchasing tasks.



    ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

    • Must have strong communication skills with good team dynamics and possess strong planning and organizational skills.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively with suppliers.
    • Must have strong negotiating skills.
    • Must be able to effective manage time.
    • Must have a strong understanding of the entire supply chain including raw material procurement, brews in process, packaging finished products, warehousing and shipping.
    • Must have a good understanding of logistics related to purchasing and sales.
    • Must have a good working knowledge of business and purchasing practices.
    • Must have a strong work ethic and the ability to multitask.
    • Must be flexible and willing to do whenever and whatever it takes to get the job done right.
    • Must be computer literate in spreadsheets and Microsoft Office. Experience with Business Works, SAP or OrchestratedBEER software is definitely a plus.
    • Must have a genuine appreciation for great craft beers and great barbeque.
