Petoskey Brewing is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Brewer. This is a full-time, salary position.
Petoskey Brewing is a fast-growing micro-brewery that began producing beer in September of 2012. We are projecting 2013 production in excess of 3000 barrels and will increase to 9000 barrels within four years. We are currently serving beer out of our brewery Tap Room and in 100+ on-premises accounts. Canning operations will commence within the next eight weeks.
Located on the shore of Lake Michigan, Petoskey is a year-around outdoorsman’s and sportsman’s paradise. The Petoskey/Harbor Springs area became a popular summer resort destination in the late 1800’s and continues to draw vacationers of all ages today. The area boasts the best sailing, fishing, golfing and cycling in the mid-west during summer months and incredible skiing, hunting and snow-sports in the winter.
Our brewery and retail Tap Room is located in a four-story brick building that was built as a brewery in 1898 and produced beer under the Petoskey Brewing label until prohibition shut down the operation.
The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record within a production micro-brewery.
Skills and attributes of the candidate will include:
• 2+ years professional brewing experience in a medium size micro-brewery.
• Industry education is preferred but not required. (Davis, Siebel, Guild).
• Proven brewery knowledge including chemistry and biology.
• Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Multitasking and time management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Computer literacy
• Self-motivation as well as the ability to work efficiently as part of a team
• Flexibility (shift work, night shifts, weekends)
• Physical strength, flexibility and stamina required. (Must pass a pre-hire physical exam)
• Live in Michigan, though we will relocate the perfect candidate.
Duties will include:
• Familiarize, replicate and record recipes and brewing techniques utilized by Head Brewer.
• Maintain brewery, BATF, Inventory and production reports as required by management.
• Establish brewery laboratory for monitoring and testing production and packaging.
• Properly maintain lab equipment, including calibrating, cleaning, sanitizing and repair when necessary.
• Write and maintain brewery Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
• Perform necessary quality assurance testing (e.g. measurements on packaging materials, beer carbon dioxide and air levels, label and finished package quality, etc).
• Establish and perform daily quality assurance audit on kegging, bottling or canning line.
• Monitor and analyze CIP and sanitation procedures.
• Perform yeast pitching rate and viability counts.
• Establish and perform quality assurance audit on yeast propagation, reclamation and pitching processes.
• Establish and manage tasting panel. Maintain records of results. Organize and maintain library of products.
• Establish and maintain draft line cleaning protocol.
• Operate brewing equipment to maintain acceptable inventory of finshed product and in-process materials.
• Monitor OSHA, MSDS and Health Department regulations to ensure compliance.
