  • Can you guess what size this is?

Some equipment that my friend is looking at, but I only have these pictures for the time being. Any guesses at the size of these pieces of equipment?

My guess is it is a 3bbl.... But, I've been wrong before!

Assuming that's a 1.5" TC on the kettle, it has both height and diameter of about 28", which would be 2.4 bbl volume, plus the dish. I'd say it's most likely designed for a 2 bbl brew length.

That top tank looks like an old UK Grundy tote tank, most of which were 5 UK barrels. A UK barrel is 164 litres, as opposed to a US barrel, which is 117 litres, so that would make it about 7 US barrels. I do agree that the other vessels look quite a bit smaller and cuter than that, so I could be wrong, or this could be a conditioning tank designed for a double batch.

And how big is the Grundy? Are those pretty much standard size?

Almost certain the top tank is 7bbls. We have one just like it that we affectionately call R2-D2.

Grundies are almost always 5 UK bbl (7 US bbl) total volume. Workable volume as a fermenter, 6 bbl or so.

We had a nice little 3.5 BBL Grundy that we used in the cold room for a dispensing tank, to free up a 7BBL for another batch. The label on the side of the grundy should say the capacity, if you can read it.
Have your friend get height and diameter dimensions, then you will know for sure.

looks like a 3bbl brewhouse with double size fermenters and grundy.
