How Do Distributors Handle Kegs

Hello! Had a question around distribution of kegs. Say a brewery owns or leases it kegs and the sells those to a distributor. After a distributor delivers a keg to a restaurant and then picks up the empty keg, what happens next?

Does the distributor immediately send the keg back to the brewery?
Do they hold on to it in their own warehouse? And for how long?
And when they send the kegs back, do they drop it off themselves or use a freight services?

This is just my experience with our distributor, but I believe it to be fairly standard.

The kegs go back to the distributors warehouse where they sit until the next truck out to your brewery. How long probably depends on how organized/motivated your distributor is to get the kegs back to you.

Our distributor sends them back on the truck that picks up the weeks beer.
