  • Sizing a yeast propogation system

What size tanks & system would be required to propogate 4 strains of yeast for brewing 100BBL batches of beer?

    Hi,

Assuming that you don't propagate each strain more than every four weeks you should be able to get by with one propagator. Normally you should achieve around 100million cells/ml out of the propagation system sometimes even higher. I would get a 10BBL/12HL system which would mean in your culture brew you would be able to achieve around 10million/ml in fermenter and get a reasonably normal fermentation. Alfa laval / Scandibrew do little skid systems which would be suitable (and I'm sure there are plenty of other suppliers).

    Cheers,

    Alex
