  • Minor surface rust removal

Anyone have a suggestion on the best way to remove minor surface rust from a stainless sparge arm fitting? (There are some areas that are too small to get fingers into.)

    Thanks

    Phosphoric acid, then rinse thoroughly.

There has been a fair bit talked about rust removal and passivation.

As stated, phosphoric will be a good start, if necessary using a green pad with it (and suitable protective clothing, especially gloves and eyewear) to get off heavy rust deposits, and then passivate - citric or nitric acids are both suitable. Check the recent threads on passivation.

Make sure you aren't using hypochlorite at high concentrations, at low pH and ensure thoroughly rinsed off with neutral pH water to reduce likelihood of recurrence.

How about from (get this) the inside of fermentation tanks? These Pub Brewing Co. Tanks are the worst

Circulate phosphoric acid or nitric solution - a few percent, and slightly warm, say 35 deg C will work quicker.
