Brewer/Cellarperson Position at Port City Brewing Company in Metro DC

We are a young, growing package brewery that is in transition. We produced over 5000 bbls last year (our second year) and expect to do 75% to 100% more this year. We are also transitioning to bottle conditioning (with two of our three house yeasts, no dry yeast) all our ale brands. Our beer is not pasteurized or filtered so sanitation is important in this busy facility. We are beginning to need to brew, cellar, package, ship, receive and do maintenance all in one day. We brew a mix of American, British, Belgian and German styles and, we mix up the techniques and philosophies as well. We have 3 full-timers and have just hired a fourth. At this stage, we are expecting everyone to be cross-trained to perform any needed task.

We are looking for a brewer/cellarperson with 3 to 5 years experience in a fast growing brewery; ideally one doing 10 to 20k bbls annual production. We need an individual who is both willing to adapt to our methods and also has as good or better habits regarding plant hygiene and attention to detail, as our crew.

Familiarity with GAI / CIMEC bottlers, IDD keggers, JVNW brewhouses, Columbia boilers and G&D chillers is ideal. Experience with bottle conditioning, yeast counting, plating and other basic QCQA is also important. Basic computer skills (Word and Excel) will be necessary.

Lastly this is a very hands on brewery. You will be expected to lift 55lb bags repeatedly over your head, flip full kegs unto pallets, work in hot and cold confined spaces and work both early morning or evening shifts. If this sounds like it has your name on it, shoot me a line with a resume to jonathan@portcitybrewing.com. Please no phone calls.
