Sales Contracts

We are working on contracts for sales staff, I wonder if anyone has any advice on the lifetime of commissions? it has been suggested to us that commissions continue to be paid for a period of time after a contractor has terminated their work for the company. For example 1.5% of sales to relationships built by said contractor for 3 years after end of contract.
