  • 7bbl pump and walk in cooler questions

    1) Would a 3/4 HP centrifugal pump be too much horse power for a 7 bbl batch? We definitely do not want our pump to beat the heck out of our beer!

    2) What size walk-in cooler would you recommend to house four (4) 7 bbl bright tanks, 16-20 corny kegs and hops/ingredients?

    Thanks!

No one ever complains about a pump being too powerful or a cooler being too big.
That said- get a vfd on your pump and you'll have no worries about shearing force. Make your cooler as big as you have space for and can afford, or better yet get jacketed tanks.

      3/4 HP Pump

I think a 3/4 HP might be a bit small. It would be fine for transfer but a little light for CIP for a 7 BBL system. Get a 1 HP or 1 1/2 HP with a variable speed (VFD) and slow it down for transfer and knockdown.

We have lots in stock if you want one. (Shameless advertising plug) :-)

Get as big of a walk-in cooler as you can afford. You will never be sad with more storage space. I would also suggest jacketed tanks and not keep them in the walk-in unless you are serving directly from them.
