Manzanita Brewing Co. is coming up on its third anniversary and to celebrate we’re getting ourselves a brand new assistant brewer! We sold 2,000bbl in 2012 with six year-round offerings and an average of one specialty release per month. This year we’re extending distribution beyond CA and expanding our production team accordingly. We are a lean, dedicated organization so flexibility, commitment and personal drive are required for a successful applicant.
Primary Responsibilities will include:
- Safe and efficient wort production from milling through knockout on a 2-vessel, 30bbl brewhouse
- Cellar-work; including yeast management, tank CIP, racking, plate & frame filtration, carbonation & fermenter additions
- Regular participation in tasting panels (both formal and extracurricular)
- Assist as needed with numerous tasks, including packaging, receipt of deliveries, inventory rotation, barrel work, other tasks as needed
- Keeping the brewery clean and organized
- Working with the entire production team to refine standard operating procedures
- Consistently evaluating the quality of raw materials during everyday operations
Top candidates will meet the following requirements:
- 1 - 3 years working in a production brewery (homebrewing experience is NOT an acceptable substitute)
- Sensory training or certification strongly preferred
- Professional brewing education is a plus, as is laboratory or demonstrable mechanical experience
- A commitment to helping others and getting the job done
- Independent work ethic and flexible schedule for multiple-batch starts and/or clean-ups.
- Strict adherence to record-keeping standards
- A reverence for microbiological cleanliness that borders on the pathological
- Ability to work on your feet for hours at a time in a uncontrolled climate, repeatedly lift 55#, occasionally moving full kegs (165#), climb stairs and fit in tight spaces, work on ladders and lifts.
- A sincere love of beer!
