  • Hiring assistant brewer/cellarperson in Birmingham, AL

Greetings from Birmingham, Alabama - the Magic City of the South! Allow us to make a quick introduction. TrimTab Brewing Co. is a new brewery that is launching downtown in the Fall of 2013 under the helm of a UC Davis Alum. After two years of planning, TTBC has a home in a 14,000 sf facility (previously a vintage car museum) that is currently undergoing renovations. We will operate a new 30-bbl Specific Mechanical brewhouse, a unique taproom out of the museum’s old paint room, and coordinate a sales team that will extend our brand into all state markets over the next year. Our brand concept is simple – to create balanced beer of complexity and nuance, and to celebrate small sources of large-scale change, the “trim tab concept”.

We at TrimTab Brewing Co. are seeking our first full-time assistant brewer/cellarperson - and we are looking for someone special. We want vision. We want passion. We want someone that is hungry to make the world a better place, through our beer, through our mission. As people, and as a company we live by a very deliberate philosophy of integrity, innovation, fun, quality, unabashed creativity, joy, and a belief that great things are possible from small and unassuming sources. We want skill and we want a solid pedigree of experience, but we don’t want introverts. This is not a solicitation for applications, but an invitation for the right person to join our family.

    Responsibilities will include:
    • Cleaning
    • Packaging (initially draft only)
    • Grain milling (all bag malt)
    • Brewing
    • Monitoring Fermentation
    • Transfers/filtration
    • Participation in other aspects of the business as needed
    Requirements:
    • In-depth knowledge of the brewing process
    • College degree (preferred), with study in biology, chemistry, or engineering
    • A positive attitude, attention to detail, and strong work ethic
    • A continual endeavor towards excellence and a real need to learn/improve
    • An acceptance and openness toward direct feedback
    • The ability to repeatedly lift 55 lbs and move 165 lbs
    • A flexible schedule and willingness to work any shift (including weekends)
    • The ability to stand for 12 hours, work in a non-temperature controlled environment (Alabama!), deal with heights, tight spaces, ladders, lifts, and climbing stairs
    • The belief that this is more than a job

In general we will favorably look upon:
    • Professional brewing education
    • Lab experience
    • Mechanical experience
    • Previous brewery/food production facility work
    • An ability to laugh at yourself

If you believe that you could both be a technical and cultural fit for us please get in touch. We anticipate making a final hiring decision by the end of August. Please send a resume and cover letter to contact@trimtabbrewing.com with “Brewing Job” as the subject.
