What is stopping a jacketed fermenter from holding pressure? Is it just the vent at the top?

The jacket is designed to hold some amount of pressure, so it is not as if the whole thing will explode (right?). In my specific case, I have Letina fermenters that have a working pressure up to 35 psi for the jacket. The tank itself is not supposed to hold pressure.

Also, when full of liquid, at 20' tall, I calculate the pressure at the bottom to be around 8 psi based on this.

The jacket should have a small PRV (or a nozzle for one).

If not, you can add one on the inlet/outlet line AFTER the last valve.

Choose the location based on where the safest discharge would be. Don't block it in, add an iso valve between it and the jacket, or install a bypass.

Why not pose this question to the manufacturer? It may not be designed to hold much pressure. With the competition out there for tanks they may have used very thin ss to cut costs. You never know, ask the person who does before you go sploding tanks.
