  • Organic requirements

Does anyone know of any requirements for labeling a beer as organic for example we are considering brewing a "Organic Pale Ale" using all organic ingredients and want to label it as organic.

    thanks in advance

    re: organic requirements

You will need to get in touch with an organic certification agency that is approved by the National Organic Program (NOP), their website link is:

You are currently free to make beer from any organic ingredients that you choose, however, in order to make ANY organic claims about your beer you will need to become a certified organic processor. A good first place to start is with your state's Department of Agriculture, they are in many cases a certifying agency and if not, they should at least be able to point you in the right direction.

Our brewery has been certified organic for about 3 years, if you have any specific questions, re-post here and I will do my best to answer them. Good Luck!

      less than 5

if you plan to "experiment"" in the organic indusrty there are no regulations reguarding your beer for the first $5000 worth that you sell.

/so if you are just testing the market go ahead and get some organic malts and try.

For "certified organic" organic hops are not necessary, but we have to sanitize with organic peracetic acid, but "100% certified organic" is another ball game. to get certified expect to wait at least 3 months and go through a rigorous inspection.

      good luck!
