  • Alternate pump for Perfecta-pour power pack?

We use a Banner Perfecta-pour Model 60835 1/3 hp. air-cooled power pack to chill our 8-line beer trunk and tower in our outdoor serving kiosk. The circulation pump uses a plastic coupling between the pump and motor, which is supposedly a thermal break, but which lasts less than 6 months of continuous running. This is a PITA.

We'd like to replace it with something reliable, like our brewery glycol cooling pump which has run continuously for about 8 years without a problem (obviously, this 7 1/2 hp pump would be a little oversized!).

The particulars of our system: 95' of 8-line insulated beer trunk (mostly in a hot attic), 3/8" lines. The tower in the kiosk is an 8-tap Micromatic cooled--not ice--tower. The reserve tank on the chiller is 7 gal. with a plate-type evaporator. The glycol is chilled to 32 F; return temp is usually around 35 F.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something here, but I'm sure someone will let me know what--

    Procon style pumps

The failure you are describing should not be happening under normal operating conditions.
I have to ask what the head pressure is on the pump discharge in PSIG and if the pump is noisy.
Also what does Banner Engineering say about the situation?

Banner is more than happy to sell me a new coupling a few times a year and has never been of any help in fixing the problem nor finding an alternative to this problematic pump.

This power pack is the single most maintenance intensive refrigeration device in our pub, kitchen, and brewery. I have to fix something on it every few months. It is sized correctly, according to Banner.
